The Gombe Assembly Gombe State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill to establish the Gombe State Rural Access Roads Authority (GORARA) 2024.
A statement by the Assembly’s Chief Information Officer, Umaru Ma’aji, said the passage of the bill, followed the adoption of the report of the house committee on rural, community development, cooperative and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He said the report was presented on the floor of the house by the Chairman of the committee, Isaac Maigemu Lamido, who explained that the agency will undertake overall management, development, rehabilitation, re-construction and maintenance of class C and class D roads in the state.
Ma’aji added that the GORARA will also open up local government areas economy in terms of goods and farm produce transportation within communities and the urban markets.
The statement further stated that after a thorough deliberation at the committee of the whole, the house unanimously adopted the report of the committee and passed the GORARA bill into law.
Similarly the house has also passed into law a bill to establish a Senior Secondary School Education Board 2024, following the recommendation of a report of the House Committee on Education.
Chairman of the committee, Shuiabu Adamu Haruna said the bill, which is a private bill, was sponsored by the Speaker, Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo.
The bill when assented by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, will operate parallel as the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), which oversee the affairs of primary and junior secondary schools.
The chairman stated that professional examination bodies would be represented in the board, in terms of appointment and membership of the board.

Sponsor of the bill and speaker, Luggerewo said the board when established, will create job opportunities, as well as enhance effective management of senior secondary school education.
He said senior secondary schools require special attention, as well as intervention from the government and other stakeholders for the education sector to develop.
