No fewer than 4, 000 Kano civil servants enjoying tenure elongation granted by the former administration of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje are expected to retire by 1st December 2024.
Already , the state government had concluded investigation, screening and data assessment on the affected civil servants enjoying the tenure elongation of above 35-60 years of service.

Recall that former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje introduced a civil service tenure above the normal 35-60 years of service in office allowing civil servants to remain in office for yet another five years.
However, when the NNPP Government of Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, came into office in May 2023, the administration abrogated the Pension law allowing for the tenure elongation and directed that the service years of offices reversed to the normal 35-60 years.
Speaking to Journalists in his office on Wednesday , the State Head of Service, Abdullahi Musa, said that after the abrogation of the Ganduje’s Pension law they now established a Senior Civil Servants Committee which investigated the actual number of persons affected by the law.
“Our committee, after diligent jobs, found out that about 4, 000 persons are affected and supposed to go by 1st December 2024, which means at the end of this September they will put in their retirement notices”.

He said, “Out of the leniency of the government, they were given a three months usual retirement window to put in their retirement notices and prepare for full retirement by December 2024”.
Musa explained that the government has fully prepared for the vacuum that would be created by the retirement of the civil servants who are mostly senior officers, as they already have huge plans on what will come after their retirement.
“Don’t forget that at the end of former Governor Ganduje’s administration, he employed 13,000 civil servants and when this Government came into power, in Governor Abba Kabir mercy and good hearts, he didn’t sack them”.
“We rather screened the 13,000 civil servants and out of which we fully engaged 10,000 back to service on permanent and pensionable basis, while the remaining 3,000 are those who were found wanting, were sacked”.
“Those 3, 000 among them were NYSC members, undergraduates who are still in schools, under age persons of 13 years and below and some over age persons, these are the persons that we eased out from the 13,000 inherited civil Servants employed lately by Ganduje”.

Musa further explained that acts of truancy among Civil Servants have been taken care of, as workers now resumed offices by the normal hours of 8am.
“Instead of relying on a circular go out to meet one on one with all the civil servants and almost all the state MDAs visited by myself and talked to them directly, putting senses into them on acts of truancy and today everything is almost alright”.
