Police Inspector, 2 private guards killed in Zamfara Collage attack – police

Zamfara state Police Command has confirmed the killing police inspector and two private guards during bandits attack at Collage of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Bakura.

On Sunday, gunmen suspected to be kidnappers invaded the institution and abducted 5 staff and 15 students.

Two from the abducted staff and one student were said to have escaped from their kidnappers returned to the school Monday morning.

However, in a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Mohammed Shehu, gave the number abducted as 15 students and four staff.

According to the statement, ”The Bandits who were in large number came to the school at about midnight with intent to abduct a large number of students and staff but were heavily confronted by the Tactical Police Operatives who were alerted and responded to the scene on time.

“Unfortunately, a Police Inspector and two (2) other civilian guards lost their lives while 15 students and 4 staff were abducted by the bandits.

”The Commissioner of Police Zamfara State Police, CP Ayuba N. Elkana accompanied by strategic and tactical Commanders visited Zamfara State College of Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Bakura, following an attack by suspected armed bandits at the school,” the statement said.

It further read that Police operatives while on extensive bush combing at the surrounding areas rescued 3 staff who will be debriefed and medically examine before being reunited with their families.

The statement said the Commissioner of Police while at the school, held an emergency meeting where he assured the school management and the victims relatives that the Command will in collaboration with other security agencies are employing various search and rescue strategies to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students and staff currently in captivity.

“The CP further went round the school and assessed the existing security arrangements to provide more reinforcement against future invasion.”

”The Provost of the school, while briefing the Commissioner of Police commended the resilience of the Police operatives for standing their ground despite the abduction of 15 students and 4 staff.”
