The Kano State Governor has procured 484 mini ambulances for distribution to all the political wards across the 44 local government areas of the state.
The state Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, stated this at a new conference on Thursday as part of activities to commemorate the three year anniversary of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He said the mini ambulances would be used for the transportation of patients especially pregnant women to health facilities as part of effort to ensure they have access to quality health services and safe delivery.
“The Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has procured 484 mini- ambulances which will soon be distributed to each of the 484 political wards,” he said.
According to the commissioner, the measure is part of the effort by the present administration to reduce maternal and child mortality and ensure that no patients died as a result of lack of prompt medical attention.
“We have also given priority attention to the special program for pregnant women in the state as government has increased the allocation being given to the program from N30 million to N60 million,” he said.
He disclosed that the state government has also planned to upgrade six of its hospitals to the status of specialist hospitals located in the six zones of the state.
“We equally intend to raise the status of our six hospitals to the standard of a specialist hospitals in six zones of the state,” he said.
The commissioner further disclosed that the state government had increased drugs availability at its hospitals operating Drugs Revolving Fund from 30 percent to 96 percent from 2023 to date.
“When the present administration came in 2023, drug availability at all the hospitals operating Drugs Revolving Fund was 30 percent but today I am happy to state that drug availability has increased to 96 percent,” the commissioner said.
He noted that Governor Yusuf has fulfilled 95 percent of his campaign promises in the areas heathcare in view of the tremendous achievements recorded within the last three years.
