The Kano State Government has established three Tsangaya schools for the integration of Almajiri system of education into the western education system.
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje disclosed this at the distribution of instructional materials and launch of the ‘Teen Trust Newspaper’ held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano today.

He said the schools were established following the decision taken by the government to return all the Almajiris in Kano state to their respective states of origin.
“The three Tsangaya schools built are for Kano state Almajiris that were returned to Kano from other states across the country.

“So far we have selected 100 of such Almajiris, gave them admission into the schools and provided them with all their needs including accommodation, uniforms, books and feeding to enable them study in the schools,” he said.
Ganduje, who, decried the Almajiris system of education, said the Kano State Government would continue to sustain its free and compulsory education policy as well as the integration of Almajiris system of education into the conventional system in order to give the children the opportunity to acquire both Islamic and western education at the same time.
According to him, the state government had been up to date in the payment of counter part fund for the implementation of the universal basic education system in the state.
“The state government has been up to date in the payment of the counter part fund for the UBE programme from 2015 to date,” Ganduje said.

He disclosed that the state government had sponsored a number of primary school teachers who lacked the minimum teaching qualification to acquire NCE certificate.
“Knowing fully well that many primary school teachers lacked the minimum teaching qualification, and instead of sacking them we sponsored them to go and acquire the certificate,” he said.
