One of the attributes of a good leader is exercising and ensuring equity and fairness to all, irrespective of their inclinations; whether political, sectional, religious or any other leanings.
Good leaders all over the world are known to be exhibiting robust leadership through their actions and utterances which impact on the lives of their followers positively, thus attracting global encomiums.

One of such good gestures came from the Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, when he directed that facilities such as stadium be made available to the opposition parties to use for their campaign rallies.
The directive which was contained in a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information and Internal affairs, and Spokesperson, Gawuna/Garo Campaign Council, Malam Muhammad Garba, on Monday, urged the political parties to always ensure proper use of the facilities and as well guard against any damage to them.
He expressed the hope that the political parties would conduct their campaign rallies peacefully.
Garba also quoted the ruling party in the state, the All Progressives Congress(APC), as saying that as citizens, the opposition political parties have the right to use public property for the conduct of their campaigns.
He said this was part of the party’s avowed commitment to ensure a level-playing ground for all political parties in the state.

The commissioner, however, said that the parties could only have access to the facilities such as the stadium, if they obtained clearance from security agencies on their safe use.
He said the State Government remained consistent on its policy of giving equal right as a mark of its respect for democratic ideals.
This latest gesture by Governor Ganduje should be appreciated by all lovers of political tolerance, peace and harmony in the state, especially in view of the forthcoming general elections.
It should even be more commended in the wake of reports from some states that opposition parties are being denied access to public facilities including the Stadium in which to conduct their campaign rallies.
The Governor’s gesture will go a long way in ensuring campaigns devoid of rancor and acrimony as members of the opposition freely access all approved public spaces to conduct their respective campaign rallies in the state.

What now remains is for the beneficiaries (the opposition parties) of the Ganduje gesture to conduct themselves peacefully, as the Governor urged.
