The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf on Tuesday empowered another batch 5,200 women with N260 million under the State government’s empowerment programme.
The beneficiaries were selected from the 44 Local Government areas of the state.

Speaking at the occasion, governor Yusuf said the State government had introduced some measures to ensure that the money reached the targeted beneficiaries.
“Following the discovery of some discrepancies in the disbursement of the money during the first phase of the disbursement, hence the reason why we introduced some measures aimed at ensuring the money reach the targeted beneficiaries.
He parts of the measures taken included the setting up of a 20 member committee by the state government in each of the LGA comprising traditional rulers, LG chairman and party chairman among other members.

He, therefore called on the beneficiaries to utilize the money by establishing small scale businesses of their choice to uplift their socio-economic status and families.
According to him, the support is in fulfillment of the promised he made during the electioneering campaigns in 2023.
“We promised to support you to take care of yourselves and your children. We pledged to make you self reliant and take care of your health, especially pregnant women among you and children.
“Today we have fulfilled our promise. We will be doing this to the same number of womn but with some modifications to ensure transparency and accountability,” he said.

In his remarks, the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, also cautioned the beneficiaries against misusing the money as it’s meant to support them improve their well-being.
A cross section of the beneficiaries who spoke, hailed the state government for the support.
