Cashless Policy: Bankers’ Committee Takes Campaign To Kano Singer Market

Date:

The Bankers’ Committee of Nigeria under the leadership of the Central Bank of Nigeria on Wednesday in Kano flagged off sensitisation campaign on cashless policy at the popular Singer market as part of renewed effort to enlighten traders on the importance of the new policy.

The campaign is part of the new strategy adopted by the CBN to enlighten market traders on the urgent need for people to embrace the new policy.

Speaking to journalists, a member of the Bankers’ Committee, Abdullahi Sheidu of Heritage Bank, said the sensitisation campaign was necessary so as to make the public understand that there are a number of ways to make transactions without necessarily holding physical cash.

“People should know that they can transact business without holding physical cash. There a number of alternatives like the use of Mobile Apps, POS, USSD, Internet Banking, ATM, e-Naira and QR Code.

” One can use any of these alternatives to transfer money, pay for goods and services, pay transport fare, buy airtime and electricity, pay school fees and rent, pay taxes and levies and buy fuel and much more,” he said.

According to him, the committee would continue to reach out to people with a view to making them appreciate the new cashless policy.

He said during the campaign, the committee will use the language people understand, Hausa, English, Yoruba, Igbo and others stressing that the purpose of the campaign is to make them appreciate the purpose behind the introduction of the policy.

He, therefore, appealed to Kano people in particular and all Nigerians to embrace the policy for economic growth and development of the country.

Also speaking, the Branch Manager, Access Bank, Singer Market Branch, Mrs Ijeoma Ora said the committee was in the market to create awareness to the public on the need for people to accept the new policy.

“We are here to tell people that there are other means of making transaction even if they cannot get the physical cash as much as they want, ” she said.

She called on bank customers to key into the new policy as it would go along way in checking theft, fraudulent activities and other risks associated with carrying huge amount of money.

On the issue of poor network, Ora said the banks were making effort to resolve the crisis.

“The issue of poor network has almost been resolved now as you can do your transfers now no matter the amount,” she said.
