Few days after the sudden removal of the former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alhaji Muhammad Sabo Nanono, nine prominent personalities from Kano have started making frantic moves to occupy the ministerial position, Daily Telescope, gathered.
The prospective contenders, Daily Telescope gathered, have since the removal of the former minister engaged in rigorous consultations with personalities close to presidency with a view to securing the position.
A source close to one of contenders, who pleaded for anonymity, hinted our reporter that “the man has been making several phone calls to so some personalities discussing the matter with them. Out of every 10 phone calls he makes, eight are on this matter, and you will hear him seeking for prayers from the people he spoke with. In some instances, you will hear him lobbying for the support of the people he called on phone.”
Daily Telescope learnt that among the personalities said to have been making effort to replace Nanono, include Honorable Abdulrahman Sulaiman Kawu Sumaila, a former special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Assembly Matters; Alhaji Mustapha Muhammad Dankadai, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano and Honorable Nasiru Baballe Ila, member representing Nassarawa federal constituency at the House of Representatives.
Other prospective contenders are Barrister Ismail Buba Ahmed, a special adviser to president Muhammadu Buhari on Social Investments and APC youth leader; Dr Rabiu Suleiman Bichi, former secretary to the government of Kano state under Dr Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso’s regime and Honorable Abdulmumin Jibril Kofa, the current executive director of the Business Development Federal Housing Authority (FHA).
Also, among the contenders are Professor Hafiz Abubakar, former deputy governor to the incumbent Governor of Kano state, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; Honorable Umar Ibrahim El-Yakub, current special assistant to president Muhammadu Buhari on Assembly Matters (House of Representatives) and General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, former minister of interior.
Daily Telescope recalled that the ex-minister of agriculture and rural development, who was recently relieved of his position by president Buhari was from Kano state, therefore, his replacement is expected to also come from the same state.
