The Kano state Governor, Dr AbdullahiGanduje has denied inheriting N9 billion pension and gratuity funds left behind by the government of Senator Ibrahim Shekarau.
Ganduje made the disclosure during an interactive session with Journalists at the Government House in Kano.

He explained that he rather met liabilities of N4 billion unpaid pension and gratuity funds left behind by former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso administration.
“I met an arrangement with Pensioners’ money being used to build houses at Kwankwasiyya and Amana Cities.
“Because of this problem today we cannot settle the liabilities incurred from the housing scheme, neither can we settle pension and Gratuity because of the financial difficulties we found ourselves”.

According to him, some states of the Federation barely paid salaries let alone Pension and Gratuity, “but in Kano we are doing our best to offset the backlog.
Ganduje berated the slogish attitudes of some Northern states Governors, blaming it as the major catalyst that caused high influx of Almajiri children in Kano State.
He said his administration had made plans and strategies on how to curtail the challenge of Almajiri child in the State.

He explained that the Northern Governors met on several occasions and discussed measures needed to be taken in addressing the issue of Almajiri child, which among them includes making a legislation on the matter.
He said,”Most of the Northern Governors have not enacted any legislation on Almajiri issue, which is actually causing a lot of set back in actualizing our dreams
