Yuletide: Kano CP directs Area Commanders, DPOs to intensify patrols

By Tukur Muntari

The Kano State Police Commissioner, Adamu Bakori, has directed all Heads of Departments, Squadron Commanders, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Commanders to Intensify patrols across the state.

The directive was contained in a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, a copy of which was made available to The Punch on Thursday.

He said the directive was in line with the
directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, for all Police Commands and Formations to ensure 24/7 visibility patrols as the festive period approaches.

“The Kano State Police Command wishes to inform the public of the need for heightened vigilance and safety precautions as the Harmattan season sets in and the festive period approaches.

“This period is marked by increased vehicular movement, bustling business and social activities, and unfortunately, a potential rise in certain criminal and emergency incidents such as road traffic accidents, fire outbreaks, farmers/herders clashes, and cases of sexual violence.

“So, the directive is in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for all Police Commands and Formations to ensure 24/7 visibility patrols during the last quarter of the year, “ the statement said.

He said the affected officers have also been mandated to strengthen community engagement through dialogue with community leaders, religious leaders, market associations, transport unions, and youth groups in addition to being directed to buster intelligence gathering mechanisms to enhance security.

“These proactive measures are aimed at fostering collaboration between the police and the public to prevent crimes, ensure peaceful coexistence, and respond swiftly to emergencies during this period,” Haruna said.

The Command appealed to all residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to promptly report any suspicious person or movement to the nearest police station for prompt action.

“The Commissioner of Police assures residents of Kano State of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, as well as maintaining peace and security throughout the festive season and beyond,” the statement added.
