The Kano State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, has deployed no fewer than 1,350 personnel as part of effort to enhance security during the yuletide.
The figures are contained in a statement released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi on Wednesday.
“As part of effort to enhanced visibility and patrols, the Corps has deployed one thousand three hundred and fifty (1,350) personnel for enhanced security during the yuletide,” he said.
According to the statement, the command has also deployed additional tactical teams and rapid response units strategically across urban, peri-urban, and rural areas with known crime concentrations.
“These units will conduct continual foot, mobile, and overt patrols, at entry and exit points of cities, markets, major highways, motor parks, and public venues to deter criminal activities
“Also recognising the value of inter-agency synergy, the NSCDC Kano Command has strengthened intelligence sharing and operational coordination with all the security agencies in the state,” he said.
The command therefore urged individuals, market associations, transport unions, religious bodies, traditional rulers, and civic groups to partner with its personnel by reporting concerns, remaining vigilant, and supporting lawful conduct.
“Vandals as well as criminal gangs are hereby strongly warned to desist from tampering with public infrastructure and individuals property. Breach of public peace will never be tolerated in this period as the corps is all set to deal decisively with miscreants by bringing them to justice,” he said.
Meanwhile, operatives of the corps in Kano have succeeded in apprehending seven suspected criminals linked with vandalism and burglary of individuals shops and houses.
He said two of the suspected vandals identified as Abdullahi sulaiman, 20 and Lawan Ahmed,19 both residents of Na’ibawa Gabas were caught red handed shortly after vandalizing armored cables worth thousands of Naira at Yan Shana community in Kumbotso local government area.
“The arrest was made with the support of members of local vigilante in the area.
The other two suspected vandals, Rabiu Aliyu, 25 and Bashir Zubairu, 19 were picked up in Rano local government along madaki street after vandalizing aluminium conductor cables in the area.
He said the last was syndicate of criminals terrorizing communities at Danhassan, Kura local government area with burglary of shops and houses carting away valuables belonging to residents in the area.
“According to the suspects confessional statements, no fewer than seven shops had so far been burgled by them,” Abdullahi said.
He said the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigations to face the full wrath of the law.
