The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has assured residents of Kano that the Corps operatives will continue to work efficiently in ensuring safety of lives and property particularly now that Ramadan fast has begun.
This is contained in a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, a copy of which was made available to The Punch on Saturday.
According to the statement, the State Commandant, Shafi’u Abdulmumini gave the assurance while addressing officers and men on Saturday shortly after a road walk conducted as part of activities to celebrate International Civil Defence Day.
“We’ll also redouble efforts in ensuring protection of critical national assets and infrastructure,” the commandant was quoted as saying.
“The World Civil Defence Day is celebrated today with the State Commandant participating in a road walk aimed at enlightening the public about the pivotal role which NSCDC has been playing in the maintenance of law and order,” Abdullahi said.
He said the trek which covered some kilometers was also participated by senior management staff and officers and men in company of the command’s band crew entertaining personnel.
Abdullahi said the objective of the celebration of international civil defence day include raise awareness about disaster preparedness, prevention and response.
He said ohers are to foster community participation and engagement in emergency response measures, highlight the role of civil defence in ensuring public safety and recognize and appreciate the dedication of officers towards the Corps mission.
Activities lined up to celebrate the international civil defence day included a special prayers offered at the Jum’at mosque on Friday in Kwankwasiyya City led by the chief Imam of the mosque, Barrister Sheikh Habibu Dan Almajiri Almighty Allah to guide, strengthen and protect the personnel of the Corps in the discharge of their duties.
There is also going to be a special church service on Sunday.
