Police Debunks Muhuyi Magaji’s Arrest Claims

Date:

The Nigeria Police Force has debunked recent claims by the Kano Anti-graft Agency boss, Muhuyi Magaji RiminGado, that he was arrested by the police.

“The Nigeria Police Force has taken note of recent claims made by Mr. Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, the Chairman of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, regarding his alleged arrest by police authorities. We wish to clarify that Mr. Magaji was not arrested; instead, he was invited by the Force pertaining to a petition received against him.

The clarification was contained in a statement ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, a copy of which was made available to The Punch on Monday.

“On Friday, January 17, 2025, the Inspector-General of Police Monitoring Unit received a petition against Mr. Muhuyi. In accordance with standard investigative protocols, he was invited to engage with police officials as part of due process in addressing the matter.

“Given his role as a public servant and a respected individual within society, it is expected of Mr Muhuyi to cooperate with the police to ensure a proper investigation is carried out, rather than seeking to create media attention,” the statement said.

It said, “Any assertions indicating that Mr. Magaji was arrested are unfounded and misleading. We urge the media and general public to avoid disseminating misinformation that may cause unnecessary alarm or confusion.

“The Force remains committed to upholding the rule of law and following due process in all investigations,” the statement added.

Recall that on Friday 24th January, 2025 a Team of Operatives from the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Team allegedly stormed Kano with the sole mission of arresting and transferring the Chairman Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado to Abuja.

It was alleged that an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Ahmed M. Bello produced a letter of invitation he signed to the Executive Chairman of the Agency at around 5:30 pm and insisted that he follow him to Zone One along BUK Road immediately.

The lawyers of Rimingado accused the police of denying them access to their client for about three hours and was later interrogated on a matter involving an investigation carried out by the Agency and the matter is currently pending before a court over an alleged diversion of about N4,000,000,000.00 (Four Billion Naira) from KASCO in suit No. K/154c/2023.

RiminGado was later released on bail and was asked to report to the police headquarters in Abuja (today) Monday 27th January, 2025 for further interrogation.
