The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on the National Assembly’s House Committee on Police Affairs to prioritize police welfare and ensure the judicious utilization of resources allocated to the force to enhance national security.
The Governor conveyed this message through his Deputy, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, during a courtesy visit by the committee to the Kano State Government House on Monday.
This is contained in a statement by Ibrahim Garba Shu’aibu, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor and issued to newsmen on Monday.
Governor Yusuf expressed concern over the dire security situation in the country, particularly in the northwest zone, where five out of seven states are grappling with widespread violence, including kidnappings and banditry.
He urged the committee to pay special attention to these challenges, which have disrupted farming activities and undermined the security of rural communities.
He acknowledged the significant police investments in Kano State, highlighting institutions such as the Police Academy in Wudil, Police Secondary School in Shanono, and a newly established school in Kabo Local Government Area.
The Governor commended the police for their role in maintaining peace and security, noting that the Kano State Government recently donated over 70 vehicles to the State Police Command to enhance operational efficiency.
Earlier speaking, the Chairman of the House Committee on Police Affairs, Abubakar Yalleman, stated that the visit was part of the committee’s oversight functions to assess the Kano Police Command.
He praised Kano’s exemplary cooperation with security agencies, which has made the state a model of peace and visionary leadership in the northwest.
He also expressed a commitment to strengthening the synergy between the committee and the state government for improved security in the state.
