The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has disclosed that the present administration allocated N8 billion for this year’s Ramadan Feeding Programme.
Governor Yusuf made the disclosure during the flag-off of distribution of 1, 250 cartons of Dates donated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, held at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano on Friday

Governor Yusuf who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Farouk Umar Ibrahim thanked the Consul-General of Saudi Arabia in Kano, His Excellency, Khalil Ahmad Adamawi for the good gesture, saying this was the fourth time the state received such donation.
He added the donation comes at the right time when the present administration is making concerted efforts to provide food items to the less privileged in the society to supplement them, considering the economic hardship faced by citizens.
He stated that Kano is the most peaceful state in Nigeria, noting that this attracted many people to come and Settle in the state which also brought additional pressure on the government, particularly on health and infrastructure.
“Your Excellency, this year, Ramadan is coming at a very difficult time when Kano State is the only inland of peace in northern Nigeria, so the pressure on the Government, on the people, on the infrastructure is enormous,” he lamented
The governor appealed to the Saudi Arabia Kingdom to come and build a Psychiatric Hospital and renovate the Displaced Children Camp in the state with a view of improving the condition of these personalities.
Governor Yusuf expressed satisfaction with the long cordial relationship existing between the Kingdom and the people of the state, assuring to cement it for the benefit of the two governments.
In his remark, the Commissioner Ministry of Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation Adamu Aliyu Kibiya described Saudi Arabia as a strong pillar of humanitarian affairs globally, applauding them for the good gesture accorded to the good people of the state.
The Consul-General, Ahmad Adamawi reaffirmed the Saudi Arabian Kingdom commitment towards providing humanitarian assistance to the Kano State Government.
He praised Governor Yusuf for the gigantic projects being executed in the state, especially in Heath, Education and infrastructure developments.
During the event, the Dates were distributed to Associations of People with Disabilities and some Islamic clerics among others.
Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf has called on the business community to reduce the prices of essential commodities to enable Muslims to maximise Ramadan period physically and spiritually.
He stated this in a Ramadan Message to the people of the state.
The governor urged people to support one another especially relatives and the vulnerable, saying feeding in this month is very significant.
Governor Yusuf called on citizens to leave with one another in peace and to devote their times in worshipping and supplications for more blessings to the state.
