President Muhammadu Buhari has restated commitment to continue to give priority to infrastructure development and improve water supply, sanitation and hygiene to better the lives of Nigerian citizens.
He said access to adequate portable water supply, sanitation, and hygiene are part of the indices for socio-economic development of any nation.
The president Buhari was speaking while commissioning and handing over the recently completed Zobe Regional Water Treatment Plant Project located at Dutsinma Local Government Area of the Katsina state.
Buhari explained that since the inception of the present administration, serious commitment has been demonstrated in the development of the water sector through various efforts.
He urged the Federal Ministry of water resources to continue to work towards uplifting the national aspiration as well as meeting the target for water supply under the sustainable development goals 2030.
Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State, who commended the President Buhari for completing the water treatment plant said the project was initiated by the previous government for over 25 years but abonded till when the present Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari assumed power.
According to him the project was sponsored by the Federal Government (Phase 1a &11) while the state Government part involves laying pipes to Karofi, Kafin Soli, Kankia and Charanchi which will be commence soon.
Masari explained that the water treatment plant was designed to treat and pump 75 million litres per day.
