The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has issued a stern warning to the 44 local government chairmen against diverting fertilizers provided at subsidized rates for farmers in the state.
The governor gave the warning during the flag-off of 2025 wet season distribution of subsidized fertilizer to farmers from 44 local government areas held at the premises of Al Yuma company in Madobi Local Government.
This is contained in a statement released by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad in Kano on Monday.
According to Governor Yusuf, the state government in collaboration with local government councils have invested heavily in procuring fertilizers at subsidized prices to support farmers and boost food production.
Governor Yusuf warned that anyone found engaging in fertilizer diversion will face the full wrath of the law and directed members of the distribution committees to work assiduously in ensuring seamless exercise.
“At this point, I strongly implored members of the distribution committee at local level to ensure justice and fairness in the discharge of their assignment to achieve the purpose of providing the much needed support”, the governor was quoted as saying.
He emphasized that the fertilizers are meant to support farmers and increase food production, not for personal gain or profit. He urged farmers to report any attempts to divert fertilizer to the authorities.
The governor’s warning is a clear message to those who would seek to undermine the state’s agricultural development program. The state government remains committed to supporting farmers and ensuring that they have access to the inputs they need to succeed.
He added that the government will continue to support farmers by providing them with necessary inputs, including fertilizer, to boost food production and improve their livelihoods.
The government will also work to ensure that farmers have access to markets, credit, and other resources to support them in the farming process.
