Kano NUJ to get new leadership February


The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) may get new set of leadership in February this year, as the union set to elect new executives in the state.

A 5-man Credential Committee for screening prospective aspirants has been inaugurated as part of preparations for the elections.

Inaugurating the committee, the Chairman of the council, Comrade Abbas Ibrahim while charged members of the committee to imbibe the culture of fairness and transparency while discharging the assigned responsibilities.

Abbas explained that 5-man committee headed by Adamu Ibrahim Dawakin Tofa of Radio Kano, had been mandated to conduct elections within six weeks from the date of its inauguration.

The chairman added that to ensure smooth conduct elections, the council would release a token to the committee as take-off grant, noting that “though the money will not be much, however, it will enable the committee settle some expenses during the exercise.

In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the Credential Committee, Malam Adamu Ibrahim Dawakin Tofa, assured the NUJ that committee would be fair to all aspirants in respective of their status.

Dawakin Tofa said that the election would be low key due to the COVID-19 pandemic, saying the committee would be everything within its power to ensure adherence to the laid down COVID-19 protocols while discharging its assignment.

Other members of the committee are Isyaku Ibrahim from Abubakar Rimi Television (ARTV) as secretary of the committee, Abdullahi Jalaluddeen of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Grace Ibrahim of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and Maryam Magaji of the Ministry of Information, Kano.
