Kano Govt. shuts patent medicine store, 4 diagnostic centers over quackery

The Kano State Government has closed down a patent medicine store, Esmeralda for conducting clinical activities in the store.

This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Executive Secretary, Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA) Dr. Usman Tijjani Aliyu.

Esmeralda-Pac –Pharm medicals situated at Kwanar Tudun Wada in Nassarawa Local Government area of the state was found to be conducting clinical activities as a patient was found receiving blood transfusion inside the store during a raid by the agency’s task-force.

‘’This is an act of quackery that is against the laws and guidelines of PHIMA. We would not tolerate this in Kano under the leadership of Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje administration,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the agency would be collaborating with the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria to prosecute the erring patent medicine operator to serve as deterrent to others.

The statement also said the agency raided and closed down 2 illegal Medical Laboratories named Alkhairat Laboratory and Emsabil (annex) Laboratory at Bichi town near Kafar Gari and Madinka quarters.

It said the two laboratories were operating illegally without registration with the Agency (PHIMA).

‘’Besides, two Diagnostic centers: Al- umma scanning centre and M & M scanning centre also in Bichi town were temporarily closed for allegedly mismanaging patients.

‘’All the affected facilities shall remain closed and be sanctioned appropriately by the agency.’’
