Fire outbreak claims two lives in Kano

Two persons have lost their lives while two others sustained severe injuries following a fire outbreak at Zoo Road in Kano metropolis on Friday night.

A statement by the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi and issued to newsmen on Saturday, said the fire which started at about 10pm, had destroyed four rooms at the upper floor of the residential house.

“We received distress call from one of our staff, Sabo Wada at about 10:10pm that there was a fire outbreak at a building of one floor with two apartments opposite Gidan Zoo along Zoo road.

He said two of the four people trapped during the incident were rescued alive while the remaining two victims were rescued unconscious and later died at the hospital.

“Two persons by name Salisu Sani Babura of about 45 years old and Fatima Salisu of about four years old were rescued alive.

“The remaining two victims by name Nafisa Abdulkarim of about 28 years old and Maryam Sani of about 19 years old were rescued unconscious and conveyed to Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical examination but later confirmed dead by the doctor,” he said.

According to Abdullahi, the remains of the two victims had been handed over to Shekara Divisional Police Officer, CSP Awesu Sulaiman for necessary action.

He said the cause of the interno was still under investigation.
