FG establishes STEM e-learning facilities in 218 Secondary schools

The Federal Government has established e-learning facilities to enhance learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in 218 secondary schools across the country.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar-Farouq, made the disclosure while commissioning the Northwest STEM project at GSS Rano in Kano State on Tuesday.

Umar-Farouq, who was represented at the occasion by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Bashir Alkali, said the ministry had selected some Federal and State-owned Science/Technical Secondary Schools nationwide for the project.

The Minister said that the project was aimed at providing e-learning facilities through the establishment of a State-of-the-Art information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure at secondary school level.

She said the facility would assist in developing students ICT skills and the use of internet for various purposes.

“Each centre was equipped with modern digital equipment in all the 218 of schools in the 36 states and FCT, Abuja.

“Each centre was equipped with 25 desktop computer, desktop tables and chairs, a projector, magnetic white board for learning, WiFi route multi-SIM and elegoo robotics set, among others,” she said.

In his address, Gov Abdullahi Ganduje, commended the FG for creating the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, which initiated the National Social Investment Programme (N-SIP).

Ganduje, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, urged the National Assembly to make a legislation that would enable the ministry to continue with such laudable projects after the expiration of the tenure of President Buhari.

Also speaking, the commissioner for education, Sanusi Saidu-Kiru said the facility was established in 11 schools in the state.
