APC sweeps Gombe LG elections

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe state has won all the 11 chairmen and 114 councilors’ seats in the local government election conducted in the state on Saturday.

Daily Telescope, observed that 18 political parties including APC and the major opposition party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) participated the election that was conducted by the Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission (GOSIEC).

Announcing the election’s results, the Chairman of the commission, Alhaji Saidu Shehu Awak, declared that all APC’s candidates have returned elected during the poll.

Awak explained that the election was peaceful across all the 2, 228 polling unit in the 11 LGAs of the state, as no issue of violence and irregularities was reported to the commission during and after the election.

However, our reporter observed that, the election has witnessed low turnout of voters, as election materials have not been delivered in time to most polling units within the state’s metropolis and environs.

Further observations indicated that neither electoral officers nor voters, turn-up in most of the polling units visited by our reporter, while only few voters were seen on queues casting their votes in the places where the election held.

Daily Telescope also observed that unlike during the previous elections, commercial activities went on as usual in the two major markets in Gombe metropolis, while shops and other business places remained opened for daily transactions.
