APC needs resilient leadership to survive- Senator Sherif

Date:

Former Governor of Borno State, Senator Ali Modu Sherrif says, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) needs a resilient leadership that will salvage the party from its mess ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Senator Sherriff made the disclosure in Dutse, the capital of Jigawa shortly after a 2-hour closed-door meeting with Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar.

“Our party needs a resilient and competent leadership that will salvages it from its mess before the 2023 general elections. The party needs a robust leadership to survive.

“So, we need a highly competent politician to handle this job. Somebody who has skills and courage to fix the party ahead of the next election season,” he said.

Senator Sheriff, who arrived Dutse International Airport on a private jet, said he was in Jigawa to consult with governor Abubakar as part of campaign for his future politics, noting that consultation is very vital at any stage of politics.

“Governors of our great party are engine of the party and nobody can succeed in his political ambition under the party without the support of the governors as critical stakeholders.

“So, I am Jigawa to seek for the support of my brother governor Abubakar for my future political ambition. I believe in consultation in whatever I am doing. Governor Abubakar is a strong pillar of APC and consulting him will never be a wrong decision,” he said.

Asked whether he was aspiring for the APC national chairman, Senator Sherrif said, “I am only consulting the concerned stakeholders on political ambition, but I will make my position known when the time comes.”

He, however, said handing party affairs was not something new to him, as according to him “I was once a national chairman of the defunct All Nigerian Peoples Party (ANPP), therefore, I am conversant with the system.

“If given an opportunity to become APC national chairman, I will do my best to move the party forward. As a former state governor, national chairman of the defunct ANPP and senator, I have acquired enough experience to handle the APC at national level.”

Daily Telescope observed that, Senator Sheriff and governor Abubakar later boarded the former’s private jet to Abuja from Dutse International Airport.
