3,148 voting points, settlements converted to substantive polling units in Kano, says INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission of Nigeria (INEC) says a total of 3,148 voting points and settlements have been converted to substantive polling units in Kano state.

This is contained in a statement by the State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Riskuwa Shehu and made available to newsmen in Kano on Thursday.

Shehu said with the completion of the conversion exercise, Kano state now has 11,222 polling units.

“Of the 3,148 voting points converted to polling units, 1,644 were moved to more suitable locations to improve voter access to polling units.

“Thirty eight of the existing polling units have also been relocated to better places in line with the commission”s policy on the location of polling units.

“Sequel to this development, the commission plans to resume continuous voter registration on the 28 of June, 2021, starting with online registration which is a new system designed to check congestion and other related difficulties usually encountered at registration centres,” the statement said.

According to the statement, there would be centre at each of the commission’s local government as well as the Commission’s state office.

“There will be other centres to be rotated in all the LGAs based on timetable that will be released in due course,” the statement added.
