Three teenagers including son of the Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Social Investment, Alhaji Hayatu Tafida have been sentenced to four years imprisonment for circulating nude video involving a Bride-to-be (name withheld).
The Chief Magistrate Court presided over by Shu’aibu Ahmad, however, offered an option of N400,000 to the convicts.
Daily Telescope recalled that the convicts were arraigned before the court in 2017 over alleged recording of a sex video involving a 16-year old daughter girl (name withheld).
The convicts, Aminu Hayatu Tafida, Umar Abubakar and Mas’ud Abubakar Gidado were found guilty of guilty of abetment, indecent act, sale and printing of obscene book and circulation of an 18-seconds nude video.
Delivering his Judgement, the judge averred that the court has taken into consideration that the defendants were first time offenders, have regretted their actions.
“This honorable court considers series of pleas by the Defence counsels and the need to safeguard the society from this kind of act. This honorable court ruled as follows;
“On the obscene and indecent offences, each of the defendants will pay a sum of N200,000 fine and in default they will spend two years in prison. On the sale of obscene book, each of the defendants will pay a fine of N50,000 or serve two years in prison.
“On the abetment, each of them will pay N50,000 fine, in default, each will serve six months in jail. Each of the defendants will also pay a sum of N100,000 to the complainant as compensation. This honorable court hopes that, this judgement will serve as deterrent to others,” the judge ruled.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the verdict, mother of the victim, Hajiya Safiya Umar expressed satisfaction with the judgement, saying “the judiciary has proved to be the hope of the common man.
“Alhamdulillah, today, I am grateful to Allah who speared my life to witness this judgment. The court has done justice to us and we appreciate it. I promised to follow this case to its logical conclusion and here we are today. We thanked Allah and the judiciary for this judgement. At least this, will serve as deterrent to many youth not only in Sokoto state but in the whole world.”
